Woking B 3-5 Gloucester B by Rudolph
Gloucester B arrived at Woking in good spirits, the long journey having been used to perfect their version of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer…repeatedly!
The visitors started the game in the same festive spirit by gifting Woking the opening goal, allowing Husain to head home a corner completely unchallenged.
Gloucester eventually shrugged off the effects of the journey and began to create chances without actually playing the football they are capable of, Sutherland and Weatherley combining well to create a chance apiece, but neither could beat the keeper.
On 19 minutes however, the same two players did make the breakthrough, Sutherland squaring the ball to give Weatherley time to slot the ball into the empty goal. Just a couple of minutes later, Sutherland fired the visitors into the lead from a very acute angle.
Woking were soon on level terms early in the second half, Burley squeezing the ball between defender and keeper following a poor clearance.
The excellent Sallis then belied the scrappiness of the game with some great play, taking the ball from deep in his own half, playing a quick one-two and then embarking on a run which saw him go past three players and cross with pin-point accuracy to give Weatherley another easy opportunity to restore the away side’s lead.
The advantage lasted less than three minutes, Husain neatly slotting the ball under ‘keeper Balkwill for his second of the game and the home side’s equaliser.
The visitors desire to win though was evident even when they were not playing well, as Weatherley and Sutherland netted two cool finishes late on to give them victory and three more Geoff Richards League points.
Gloucester B: Balkwill; Pinkney, Collins, Elliott, Sallis, Knight, Butcher, Weatherley, Sutherland. Subs: Mason, Williams.
