Gloucester 4-2 Bridgend by Sonny English

A beautiful warm sunny morning greeted visitors Bridgend to Longlevens for this representative fixture.

With the pitch in fabulous condition the scene was set for the two sides to entertain and they did not disappoint. After just two minutes Taylor slammed in the opener for the home side, a great strike from the edge of the area.

Gloucester began to dominate the opportunities, Williamson and Harris being at the centre of most of them, but the South Wales team held firm and gradually gained a few chances of their own. A poor clearance enabled Curran to score the equaliser unchallenged and the same player put the away side in front by holding off two defenders in a run from the half way line before neatly slotting past the outcoming keeper.

As in the first period, Gloucester began the second half in determined fashion, combative midfielder Hayes leading the way with two strong challenges, the second of which led to Fortey being freed just inside the penalty area and he dully equalised, putting a fair reflection of the game onto the scoreline.

Both keepers made fine stops, Sargeant diving to his right to turn the ball round the post and Jones doing well at the other end to keep out a Randall shot. The biggest cheer of the day though was reserved for the goal that put the homesters back in front, a Laverton strike from just outside the box staying low and true and sparking off a mass celebration both on and off the pitch as the midfielder recorded his first goal of the season.

Hayes sealed the win for The Yellows when he fired in a fourth, although Bridgend made a spirited fight of it right to the final whistle. A great turnaround and yet another demonstration of when this team play with desire and belief they are capable of achieving some great results, Gloucester winning a very entertaining game by four goals to two.

Gloucester: Sargeant; Ansermoz, Limbrick, Williamson, Thomas, Laverton, Taylor, Hayes, Harris, Randall, Fortey.
