Gloucester B 9-1 Sutton Coldfield B, by Paul Wixey
Gloucester B enjoyed an emphatic 9-1 victory in a representative fixture against Sutton Coldfield at Longlevens.
The scoring began when Harris swivelled neatly to slam the ball into the top corner at the near post in the tenth minute. Fortey followed up with an equally impressive strike but this time low to the bottom left from the edge of the area and by now the home side were in complete control, playing some very nice football, moving the ball around the pitch well.
An unfortunate own goal extended the lead and Ansermoz poached a fourth before Sargeant made his first contribution by saving well from a Sutton breakaway. Williamson and Taylor both added further goals to the Gloucester tally make it six at the break.
To their credit Sutton came out stronger in the second half following a complete re-organisation and were able to engage further up the pitch and Laverton, Hayes, Thomas and Limbrick did well to compete and maintain control of the game.
Randall scored a fine individual goal, showing his pace and composure to knock the ball around a defender and then clip the over the ‘keeper. Not to be outdone, Midwinter scored probably the best goal of the game with a run and shot down the left flank for the visitors.
Buoyed by their goal, Sutton attacked again and only a great save by Sargeant prevent a second. Two home goals followed, Taylor lobbing in from 25 yards and Williamson confidently floating in from the left hand angle of the penalty box to complete the scoring.
Gloucester: Sargeant; Thomas, Hayes, Fortey, Laverton, Ansermoz, Taylor, Harris, Randall, Limbrick, Williamson.
