Swindon 0-6 Gloucester A by Hal.F.Dozen
Gloucester’s A Squad notched up their third consecutive victory with a comprehensive win at Swindon in the Cotswold League.
The opening quarter of the game at Ballard’s Ash proved to be extremely even, with the league neighbours cancelling each other out and neither side creating a chance of note.
Indeed, the day’s first effort on target saw the visitors claim the lead and they didn’t look back. Coldridge’s forward run won a right wing corner and from Pledger’s inswinging flag kick, Gore converted at the near post.
Three minutes later Gloucester extended their lead, Townsend feeding Jenner down the left and when Boswell could only parry the city striker’s speculative effort, Coldridge followed in to notch his fourth goal of the campaign, precisely 3.5 metres away from the position he grabbed his first.
While Pledger was putting in an excellent first half display on the city left, it was through the centre that the visitors next threatened, a great run from Roddis forcing an equally fine save from Boswell, before Troke was called into action for the first time, saving from Shedden.
Immediately afterwards, Swindon centre back Toner did very well to dispossess Jenner as the striker was about to bear down on goal and the same player’s touch just deserted him following good work by Coldridge.
While some might say third time lucky, there was nothing fortunate about Gloucester’s third; Roddis’s pass, Coldridge’s cross and Jenner’s excellent finish would have graced any ground.
Gore fired just over as the visitors continued to press and right on half time the Coldridge-Roddis combination again picked out Jenner who found the bottom corner to give the city side a commanding half time advantage.
Three minutes after the break Gloucester extended their lead yet further, Richards bringing the ball out of defence with aplomb before playing in Jenner who completed his second hat trick in eight days.
Townsend then thumped an effort against the woodwork before the city side was grateful for Coldridge’s defensive awareness, the midfielder doing very well to clear after Troke had parried Beale’s drive.
Boswell saved well from Townsend after Coldridge had created yet another shooting opportunity and Gore drove just wide before more good play from Richards forced the ball to run loose in the Swindon box and Coldridge volleyed decisively into the far corner.
To their credit Swindon continued to push forward in search of a consolation, but they were twice denied by fine defensive headers from Hylton and some good work from Weir-Roberts on the right. With time ticking down Richards and Jenner swapped roles for the final four minutes – an experiment which achieved little other than to suggest it won’t be repeated in any shape or form between now and the end of the season.
