Gloucester 1-1 Solihull by P.Arity
Gloucester Schools shared the SG Cup with Solihull, as an equaliser midway through the second half gave the West Midlands association a share of the spoils.
The hosts got off to the best possible start when Gore picked out Coldridge who cut in from the right to fire a crisp drive into the far corner in only the fourth minute.
With Roddis, Gore, Coldridge and Townsend all performing well in midfield, Gloucester shaded possession, but it was the excellent Richards who created the next opportunity for the hosts, but Solihull keeper Mayo was equal to the threat and produced a fine save from Jenner.
Jenner drove narrowly wide following another fine ball from Gore, while the centre forward then found the side netting from a narrow angle after a neat move involving Townsend and Gore.
Pledger was called upon to make a key interception as Newbold looked to break just before the interval, but the city side finished the first half with keeper Troke largely untroubled.
Gloucester began the second half as they had finished the first, Jenner shooting narrowly wide of the far post after being set up by the excellent Coldridge and Roddis seeing his effort fielded by Mayo. Solihull though grabbed a leveller with virtually their first real effort on goal midway through the half, Vowles’ right wing cross being well finished by Theay.
Solihull centre back Parker then denied Coldridge following Townsend’s left wing cross before his team, buoyed by their earlier success, twice went close to grabbing the lead; first Robinson’s drive striking Troke’s right hand post before the keeper did very well to deny Theay from close range.
Solihull keeper Mayo then matched his Gloucester counterpart with a great one-handed save to deny the lively Jenner before dealing confidently with Richards’ free kick.
But despite the game continuing to ebb and flow with some incisive build up play from both teams, neither side could find the decisive score and the SG Cup was shared.
