Wokingham 5 Vs 1 Gloucester A

Gloucester went down to Wokingham in the Southern Counties League as the hosts proved to be far more clinical, netting from five of their six goalbound efforts.

The visitors were well on top in the early stages and on three minutes Jenner was played in by Hylton but Lewens was equal to the striker’s effort. Four minutes later and a case of déjà vu as Pledger on this occasion turned provider only for the keeper to deny Jenner with an even better save.

Jenner then found the side netting after being played in by Roddis before the hosts struck twice in the space of four minutes. Bevan netted the first after Gore had cleared Athey’s initial effort off the line and after Richards had made a good challenge to deny Cooke, Scurr’s half hit effort rolled into the far corner.

Troke then did well to divert Edmonds’ drive over the bar before the visitors responded, Townsend’s effort being turned round the post by the home keeper, before Roddis’s header from Townsend’s corner flashed just over.

Gloucester continued on the front foot as the second half began, Jenner’s free kick flashing inches wide before Gore’s looping header from Coldridge’s right wing cross was cleared off the line.

It was Wokingham though that netted the decisive third goal of the game as Collier skipped clear down the homesters’ left flank and his fine cross was volleyed home at the back post by Doward.

Worse was to follow for the city team as Theobald’s effort took a deflection to wrong-foot Troke and after Jenner again went close

following Hylton’s assist, Bevan reacted quickest after Troke had saved Cooke’s initial effort to net the hosts’ fifth.

Gloucester continued to battle hard and gained a deserved consolation when Roddis headed home a well worked corner from Townsend with two minutes remaining.
