Gloucester A 1 Plymouth 3

Gloucester’s A Squad turned in a lack-lustre performance that saw the Devonshire outfit return to the south west with three Cotswold League points.

A very open first twenty minutes saw chances at both ends, Jenner being denied by Marshall in the Plymouth goal after being played in by Roddis while Troke and the covering defenders somehow kept out a Jeffery free kick.

Gloucester went ahead after an incisive break saw Townsend put Jenner in behind the Plymouth defence and the predatory striker finished neatly into the bottom corner.

The visitors were getting in behind the home defence down both flanks and only a terrific point blank save from Troke kept out Harrison.

Jenner almost doubled the city team’s advantage after Townsend had again turned provider, but Marshall was again equal to the effort, while Roddis’s long range effort was cleared by O’Connor from inside the six yard box.

Plymouth responded with a period of pressure of their own and went into the interval ahead thanks to two goals in the five minutes before the break. First Lidstone’s cross deflected in off a Gloucester defender before Jeffery’s hopeful effort somehow slipped past Troke to give the visitors a half time lead.

Gloucester looked in more determined mood after the break and started to win more ball in the midfield area. Coldridge began to look dangerous down the right while Gore’s drive brought another block out of Marshall who turned the ball round the post.

Another fine save from Troke denied Kingdom, while Marshall again thwarted Jenner as Gloucester tried in vain to restore parity. With eight minutes to go Smith smuggled the ball home from close range as Gloucester failed to clear following another Troke save and only fine defending from Hylton prevented Jeffery adding a fourth.

In the end Plymouth were well worth their victory as Gloucester ended the day with a brace of Cotswold League defeats.
