Gloucester A 2 St Albans A 1 by Verulamian
Two goals from Finlay Jenner saw Gloucester’s A Squad overcome an early St Albans strike, but the game was abandoned with eighteen minutes remaining on the clock following an injury to visiting midfielder Jamie Breen.
Daniel Roddis was in the thick of the action in the early stages, a fine early interception cutting out a dangerous foray from The Saints before unleashing a well struck drive from 25 yards at the other end, Todd doing well to turn his effort to safety.
A defensive error led to St Albans claiming the lead, Di Trolio giving Troke little chance from ten yards.
However, home midfielders Gore, Roddis, Coldridge and Townsend were giving as good as they got, closing down quickly and playing at a higher tempo than in the previous week’s defeat by Potters Bar and the equaliser duly arrived on twenty minutes. Townsend fed Hylton on the left and Jenner’s fine header from the resulting cross found the far corner.
Troke saved well from Galvez and with Pledger and Weir-Roberts covering well, Gloucester nullified the visitors’ attacking threat and went ahead four minutes before the interval, Hylton freeing Jenner who made no mistake as he went one-on-one with Todd.
Shortly after the break Townsend played in Jenner whose effort drifted inches wide of the far post, but Gloucester were forced into some determined defending before the game was halted twelve minutes into the second half.
