Gloucester A 1-4 St Albans A

Gloucester’s A Squad came up against a strong St Albans outfit in their second outing, but despite a much improved second half display, they slipped to a 4-1 defeat.

In front of another healthy Longlevens attendance, a terrific Harvey Moroney save denied Ferdinand and the keeper did well again immediately afterwards to keep out Sandiford, before a brace of defensive lapses were pounced upon by Sam and Jed Ejjayha to give the visitors an early advantage.

The hosts battled back and good work down the right from Jamie Lawson led to an opportunity for the hosts but the chance went begging, before right on half time George Still converted on the break for The Saints.

A great strike from Bradley Smith four minutes after the break extended the lead yet further, but the hosts, with Seb Jones and Brandon Liggett in particular putting in fine performances, hit back. Corey Blackburn’s effort flashed just over before a fine run and powerful drive from Liggett reduced the arrears with ten minutes remaining.

Gloucester continued to press in search of a second score and even though the goal didn’t materialise, the effort and commitment of the last twenty five minutes gave rise to the hope of an upturn in fortunes in the not too distant.

Gloucester: Moroney; Mclean, Jones, Clifford; Lawson, Blacker, Liggett, Chamberlain; Smith. Subs: Wilkes, Blackburn, Lynam.
