A Windy Wales Without a Win
In blustery conditions, the B team made their way across the border for another visit to the Valleys (or close enough for another game in the Anglo-Welsh trophy. With the windy conditions and a small astro pitch, it didn't leave much room for pretty football from both sides.
Both teams threatened the first goal with both keepers doing well to keep the ball out of the net.
The first good chance came from a Mulraney free-kick where Fisher was waiting at the back-post. His attempt at a flying volley went just wide of the post.
First blood went to Gloucester after another good dead-ball kick from Mulraney's hit the crossbar and Kennedy followed up from the rebound and scored from close range.
After losing the ball on the right, Newport quickly attacked the Gloucester goal. Thomas for Newport quickly pounced on his own rebound, after Boakes had saved the original shot, to slot underneath the keeper and draw level.
Similar to the first half, both teams started the second half creating chances, but not taking any. Villiers missed two one-on-ones - being put through by Bee and then Fisher, whilst Newport, now looking very dangerous, hit the crossbar twice and Boakes made 3 saves consistently to keep the game level. Carrying on the similarity, it was Gloucester that took the lead when Mulraney's long throw was headed out, but Kennedy took a quick left-foot shot low and hard into the bottom right and scoring his brace.
From a Gloucester free-kick, the Newport keeper saves, kicks the ball long where Boakes punches it away only for Williams to take a touch and smash home to draw level.
Boakes again saved Gloucester's blushes when a goal-mouth scramble looked increasingly dangerous until a save and then a pounce on the ball at the striker's feet meant that the scoreline stayed equal and a fair result.
