To learn or not to learn....that is the question!

There was a feeling in the air that this could be a slip-up. With the B team on a run of 7 consecutive wins and having comfortably beaten Bath in their warm up game at the beginning of the season, it was noticed that there seemed to be a lackadaisical tone to the morning.
The relatively short journey to the picturesque ground at Landsdown was filled with funny aromas, comical drawings, random topics of chat, performances of rap and some words of reminders to a few.
Arriving 4 hours early for the game, the boys had plenty of time to get ready, Harris had time to kick a ball around to see if the groin pop he’d felt the night before was serious or not (as he’d been told that morning that his afternoon team had the bare 11) and Wixey quickly realised that he had another ‘boy’ to look after……again!
With Bath agreeing to kick off slightly earlier, the boys had their instructions and they set off to continue their good run.
From the get-go, it was clear that this was likely to be an open game. Gloucester created the first chance with Jones on the left passing the ball inwards to Fisher. His low shot across goal was saved well by Meredith to off for a corner. Bath quickly found their way into the Gloucester half and pounced onto a poor clearance to create a one-on-one, but Boakes was equal to the effort and saved well down to his left.
The visitors open the scoring with a great ball in from Taylor finding its way to an unmarked Fisher whose 2nd headed goal of the season was placed perfectly into the bottom corner.
Bath quickly responded and won the ball easily on the right side before passing left to Edwards who ran beyond the defence and slotted comfortably home to equal the scoring. This was quickly capitalised upon and Bath [now winning more of the tackles] won another tackle just outside of the Gloucester box. A quick throughball to Edwards again saw him go around two defenders and shoot low into the near corner.
A sloppy offside gave Bath the chance to loft the resulting free-kick over the top of the visitor’s defence and hit a quick and low shot to put the home team 2 goals up.
Just before half-time, Gloucester pulled a goal back when Villiers’ shot was pushed wide by the keeper only for Bee to quickly cross back to Jones in the middle of the goal where he slotted home from close range [scoring in his 5th game in a row].
Gloucester definitely started the second half the better team. Fisher, now upfront, closed down Meredith well to jump on his clearance. Controlling the ball, Fisher quickly put the ball across goal where Kennedy was there to finish comfortably and equal the score line.
Sadly, although Fisher had two good opportunities that were well saved by Meredith following this goal, this was to be the last bits of positive play from the Bs.
Following those chances, Bath scored 3 goals that were very similar
The following two goals were like watching a replay. Again, we lost the ball, Bath pushed the ball out to the left and Edwards put the ball across the area through Gloucester defenders where Baldwin had a tap-in into an empty net on both occasions.
Bath were well and truly worth their victory on the day, but I can’t help but think that this was an opportunity lost. To learn or not to learn…...well, that’s up to them!
