Swansea 0-2 Gloucester by Drowned Rat

Gloucester Yellows travelled to South Wales for the inaugural meeting between the two sides, the visitors maintaining their 100% record on their awaydays…that’s two games played and two torrential downpours endured.

The hosts were quickly into their stride, passing the ball around quickly and precisely, Gloucester keeper Sargeant having to be alert to deny the hosts an early lead.

Slowly the visitors began to acclimatise to the conditions and compete with their opponents, Thomas and Randall making inroads down the right flank and Williamson and Limbrick both battling well defensively. Subs Laverton and Harris added energy and strength respectively, but Swansea continued to make most of the running without being able convert any of their many chances.

Just before the break, Randall’s driven corner was deflected in off the keeper to give Gloucester the lead and they doubled their advantage soon after when Williamson fired in from ten yards, giving the scoreline an unlikely look at half time.

With Swansea changing their entire team for the restart and the rain continuing to pour down, it took a while for either side to settle. With Hayes sweeping well at the back and Fortey getting to grips with his technically gifted counterparts in midfield, The Yellows began to exert some sustained pressure of their own for the first time in the game, but were unable to increase their lead.

The last ten minutes saw a Swansea onslaught on the Gloucester goal. A fantastic double save from the excellent Sargeant, a goal line clearance from Ansermoz and some strong tackling from Thomas ensured the visitors’ lead remained intact to complete a hard fought two-nil victory for The Yellows and maintain their 100% start to the season.

Gloucester: Sargeant; Thomas, Hayes, Ansermoz; Randall, Limbrick, Fortey, Williamson; Taylor. Subs: Harris, Laverton
